The road most travelled?: the 16-19 journey through education and training

Post-16 education and training is not supporting disadvantaged young people to catch-up and attain key qualifications and therefore gain the skills they need to progress into sustained education or employment. The particularly poor outcomes experienced by 16-19 year olds from disadvantaged backgrounds combined with recent policy changes affecting the provision they receive, has moved Impetus - the Private Equity Foundation (Impetus-PEF) to focus attention on this group and their life after school during 2016/7. This report presents the post-16 landscape for these young people, introduces the experiences of three Impetus-PEF partner charities serving those most at risk within this age group, and highlights the barriers to progression that these young people face. The report is the first under the Impetus-PEF 'Life after school' campaign.
