Community-Based English Language programme: a randomised controlled trial
In April 2016, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government ran a randomised controlled trial (RCT) to evaluate the impact of its Community-Based English Language (CBEL) intervention on language proficiency and social integration outcomes. The intervention, aimed at people with very low levels of functional English proficiency, consisted of 66 hours of guided learning and support delivered through 22 classes and 11 club sessions over an 11 week period.
